Moral Responsibility of Advertisers

Money makes the world go round, and the only way for a business or industry to stay in place, they need profit, to make profit, they need to sell their products, and to get their name out there, they need to advertise.

Advertisers are the people behind those advertisements you find down the street of the new McDonalds burger or Etisalat advertisement on new data plans, and even the commercials you see on YouTube are still considered a part of advertisement. I believe that advertises do think twice and have a moral responsibility over their work. But in this era, advertises should think twice before posting a poster trying to promote a product.

Let’s say a brand new beauty product gets released from Huda Beauty or Sephora this upcoming weekend and the model on the advertisement poster is a tall, thin, blonde white girl who also happens to be photoshopped, this could lead towards girls losing confidence because they believe that is how a girl should look like and the only way to look like that girl they saw on the poster, is to buy the product that they were advertising. This common situation would only have a negative impact towards the audience, but not the companies who are advertising are not impacted one bit.

Overall, we all know advertising is harmful and no one is benefitting but the companies or corporations behind the advertisement. In recent years, many sexist advertisements have stopped due to the mass hate received by consumers, many companies have stopped using gender representations in their advertisements due to the dozens of complaints received from the media.

Gender representations is not the only concern in advertisements, racism plays a big role as well. Many companies would target at a society or use people from different races to advertise a certain product.

Lastly, I believe that advertisers should think twice before creating an advertisement, they should consider what the consumers and audience may feel towards an advertisement, in most cases, the advertisers are just doing their jobs or whatever; But whatever they are or whatever they are doing, they should not offend anyone and they should be good.

Language as a WOK - TOK

What would be the advantages and disadvantages of everyone in the world spoke a common language? What would be gained and what would be lost? First of all, it was actually predicted that people would all speak one language in the future. This would take place in a Utopia and “Old” languages would eventually die out and become history. Like everything in life, there is a positive and negative point. If the world as we know it and it’s people spoke only one language, it would be a good thing because it would be easier for us to communicate with others across the globe. Target Audience in Advertisements

This sexist ad published by AXE (Mens Grooming) shows a man holding an AXE product with two women who seem very interested towards him. The advertisement's intended audience is men since AXE is a Mens Grooming company, or maybe the advisement is motivating men to use deodorant to smell good so they would attract women. This ad hints that if men use AXE products, they would attract the female gender and based on the male models face, to feel happy and complete, and that is what the product would provide. Perhaps, this advertisement is directed to men who want to have good hygiene and for men who are fans of men grooming products. But, I highly doubt that since the advertisement is less focused on the product itself but more onto what would be the outcome if one uses this product. So, the ad is really trying to make sales with the male grooming product to entice women.
