Pop Culture and Media

Media controls our day to day lives, life, as we know it as of today, is based on media, and indeed. It has impacted everyone's life in either a good and a bad way. An aspect of the modern media, is pop culture, pop culture is more than just from what you see on Twitter, Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram and all other social media platforms, it is a way for us to express ourselves, it could vary from thinking Starbucks is too mainstream, fashion tastes and weird mindsets too. Also, the internet knows everything you “Like” due to social media, for example, in the documentary “Generation Like”, they show us that many social media platforms sell certain information to their users to various companies such as Lionsgate, Pepsi, Nike, Adidas and even car brands such as Ford, and in this documentary, they state “You Are What You Like”, which relates to the main message behind this documentary, this helps advertisers sell more and advertise the product they are paid to do so. The media is...

Print Ad - Analysis

Image
This advertisement is from Giorgio Armani, and this ad mainly focuses on their product which is the cologne "Armani Code." Straight up from this ad, we can easily see a model man and woman in a very close relationship, showing affection, intimacy and perhaps using this product could help support the idea of seduction as the slogan suggests (The Code of Seduction For Men), and this could perhaps help boost the sales and attraction to this product, it would grab a lot of male attention and as well for women as they might inspire and convince their romantic partner to purchase this product. This advertisement is trying to tell its viewers (Men) that with this product, they would be able to attract women using this product and may look and get lucky as the male model shown in the ad as he is very close to this female model. The ad also shows a bit of gender roles/stereotypes as the man is shown as the dominant gender, we can see because the female model is shown giving love,...

Pitch Reflection

What main appeals did you use in your pitch? Why did you decide they would be the most effective? We targeted at the locals in Hong Kong who were primarily vegan, but we also aimed at people who were curious about the product we were advertising which is fake meat made from plants. We would display facts, scientific knowledge and information on the product, we would talk about how it’s 20f of plant protein in each burger patty, how it is gluten-free, 100% vegan and how you should try it! Likewise, we know that in the modern era, most vegans get laughed at, made fun of, and several jokes on the internets are directed towards making fun of vegans (memes), so possibly with this product and ad, we could change the shape of how vegans are seen negatively to making them seem in a positive way, the main reasons vegans are made fun of because of the food they eat which is mostly green food apparently, so with this brand new tasty fake meat made from plants dish, people would hopefully cha...

Target Audience in Advertisements

Image
This sexist ad published by AXE (Mens Grooming) shows a man holding an AXE product with two women who seem very interested towards him. The advertisement's intended audience is men since AXE is a Mens Grooming company, or maybe the advisement is motivating men to use deodorant to smell good so they would attract women. This ad hints that if men use AXE products, they would attract the female gender and based on the male models face, to feel happy and complete, and that is what the product would provide. Perhaps, this advertisement is directed to men who want to have good hygiene and for men who are fans of men grooming products. But, I highly doubt that since the advertisement is less focused on the product itself but more onto what would be the outcome if one uses this product. So, the ad is really trying to make sales with the male grooming product to entice women.

Moral Responsibility of Advertisers

Money makes the world go round, and the only way for a business or industry to stay in place, they need profit, to make profit, they need to sell their products, and to get their name out there, they need to advertise. Advertisers are the people behind those advertisements you find down the street of the new McDonalds burger or Etisalat advertisement on new data plans, and even the commercials you see on YouTube are still considered a part of advertisement. I believe that advertises do think twice and have a moral responsibility over their work. But in this era, advertises should think twice before posting a poster trying to promote a product. Let’s say a brand new beauty product gets released from Huda Beauty or Sephora this upcoming weekend and the model on the advertisement poster is a tall, thin, blonde white girl who also happens to be photoshopped, this could lead towards girls losing confidence because they believe that is how a girl should look like and the only way to loo...

The Gender Representation in Modern-Day Advertisements

Image
This Deodorant Advertisement illustrates the modern-day stereotype of how a woman should like, showing a thin, pale blonde girl in a dress with red lipstick on, she is a perfect example of what most white woman feels that they should look like. Also, with the visible large white caption "Fear of being hurt," displaying to the audience that the female gender is fragile and that somehow applying this deodorant will not get you hurt. Honestly, this advertisement is all about a woman being fearless. In this ad, we can see that the model looks confident with her big smile and having her hands up in the air, she seems to look confident and secure, and that is what most women want to feel and be, so they should go buy that deodorant she is using to feel that way. This beer advertisement is undoubtedly targeted at a male audience. This ad shows a woman's body covered in a tight dress or clothing with the beers logo on it, I am not too sure on what the caption states...
