Pitch Reflection

What main appeals did you use in your pitch? Why did you decide they would be the most effective?

We targeted at the locals in Hong Kong who were primarily vegan, but we also aimed at people who were curious about the product we were advertising which is fake meat made from plants. We would display facts, scientific knowledge and information on the product, we would talk about how it’s 20f of plant protein in each burger patty, how it is gluten-free, 100% vegan and how you should try it! Likewise, we know that in the modern era, most vegans get laughed at, made fun of, and several jokes on the internets are directed towards making fun of vegans (memes), so possibly with this product and ad, we could change the shape of how vegans are seen negatively to making them seem in a positive way, the main reasons vegans are made fun of because of the food they eat which is mostly green food apparently, so with this brand new tasty fake meat made from plants dish, people would hopefully change their opinion towards vegans and their diets.

What were some specific persuasive techniques you used (include examples) why did you believe these would be effective?

  • Beautiful people: it would catch eyes showing how beautiful women/men that are vegans and that they look so amazing and good from eating vegan foods, this would set an idea towards people that too in order to look as good as that girl on the ad, she has to use the same product as shown.
  • Celebrities: In our case, we would use former Miss Hong Kong, actress, and Hong Kong’s favorite Kate Tsui to advertise the product to grab attention towards the local Hong Kong people.

How did an awareness of audience and context influence your overall approach to this activity?
Being new to the Hong Kong demographics, it was a struggle to really know how to grab the locals attention in Hong Kong, my partner and I did some research on what do the local Hong Kong people’s interest, their favorite foods, and favorite local celebrities. Despite the fact we had to use the few common aspects in an advertisement, we still used ways to persuade by making our ad very appealing to our target audience and eventually convincing them to want to go and purchase the fake meat and try it out for themselves.

Explain the use of some of the images you included. Why did you feel they would be effective?
Well showing beautiful celebrities trying the product itself would really grab attention, because using beautiful people and celebrities really grabs attention, also the vegan community would really appreciate it if they saw their favorite actress/actor/singer or any famous figure eating vegetarian food and promoting it in an excellent way, this would leave a vast positive impact towards the Hong Kong population.

Comment on the effectiveness of your presentation. How will this activity inform how you prepare for your FOA?

To be honest, I personally feel like I could have done a better job. I should have shown my knowledge more and perhaps carried cue cards along with me to help me explain key points more effectively. Furthermore, I should have practiced my presentation the night before to put down a good show and to get my message across, and to see my mistakes while practicing and I would have made improvements afterward. Also, my partner and I were not as organized, we did not know how to explain well enough for our classmates and perhaps teacher to understand us, and also time-wise, I felt like we rushed to avoid going over the limit. Lastly, this pitch presentation helped me somewhat prepare for the FOA and understand how ads are created, and look at how to make the product more appealing to the consumers.
