TOK - Natural Sciences and its links to Personal Knowledge
I was never really a fan of science growing up. But, when I think of natural sciences, I think of the world we live in and humans. As I mentioned earlier, I am not a fan of science, and I have not a lot of interest towards subjects like Chemistry, Physics, and Biology, but I do know the obvious basics of these subjects and simple key terms. I firmly believe that having knowledge of natural science makes you understand the world we live in, as well as yourself, well, in a way; And plus, its common sense that natural sciences give us valuable knowledge towards our world.
Technology has changed our world in every way possible, and using technology has become an everyday habit for most of us. It is our way of communicating, researching and sharing our opinions and knowledge of what we know.
As an IBDP student, I am required to take a Group 4 subject, so I decided to take Design Technology (DT) as my science since it interested me and made me understand more on the science behind product making. It has impacted my everyday life since it has changed my views towards products because I now look more into depth with them. For example, I own an iPhone, and because of DT, I now understand more of the phone and the processes of it being built and why also this applies to various objects/projects/products today. This helps me understand the world we live in today and what keeps the roof over our heads, and what makes it so, scary, isn’t it? How a school subject just changes the way I look at technology and design.
